IDEMIA Secure Transactions Opens Agentic Commerce to All Payment Schemes

Built on IDEMIA Secure Transactions’ tokenization and authentication technologies, the solution enables domestic schemes, regional networks and private-label card issuers to secure AI-agent-driven checkout and preserve their role at the point where payment decisions are made.

IDEMIA Secure Transactions (IST), a global leader in payment and connectivity solutions, today unveiled its Agentic Commerce solution, designed to help payment networks support transactions initiated by AI agents while preserving trust, consent and payment sovereignty.

As AI agents begin to search, compare, recommend and initiate purchases for consumers, checkout is set to become less visible and more automated. For domestic schemes, regional networks and private-label card issuers, the challenge is clear: make their cards available, trusted and selectable when the agent becomes the new shopping interface.

IST’s Agentic Commerce solution addresses this challenge by combining its Token Platform, FIDO2-certified authentication capabilities, and new features for consent capture, verification and dispute-ready evidence. It gives payment networks the infrastructure they need to make their cards agent-ready and compete on a level playing field with international payment schemes.

Bringing Every Network into Agentic Commerce

Agentic commerce is moving fast, and the opportunity it represents is significant: Juniper Research forecasts it will generate $1.5 trillion globally by 20301, while McKinsey estimates it could drive between $3 and $5 trillion in global consumer transactions value over the same period2.

As global players have built agentic commerce within their own environments, IST is providing the independent trust infrastructure that allows every payment network to take part by delivering the stack needed to make its cards available, secure and selectable in agent-driven checkout, with the cardholder’s choice of network preserved, including on co-badged cards.

At IDEMIA Secure Transactions, we believe it’s crucial to give every payment network a proven way to be ready for AI-driven checkout. Domestic and regional schemes, private-label and co-branded card issuers can now take part in this new era of commerce on their own terms, with trust and control for the consumers.

Securing AI Agent-Initiated Payments

When an AI agent shops on behalf of a consumer, the payment journey changes. Every network must now be able to answer three questions: who expressed the intent to buy, and on what terms; who confirmed the purchase, and with what credential; and how this can be proven months later, if a dispute is initiated and the agent may no longer exist.

IST’s Agentic Commerce solution answers these questions through four key capabilities:

  1. Agent-ready tokenization, releasing tokenized payment credentials through IST’s Token Platform only once consent has been verified, keeping issuers and networks in the decision path.
  2. Passkey-based authentication, to help ensure secure cardholder authentication during enrolment and payment.
  3. Restricted-use payments, allowing tokens to be limited by merchant, amount, category or time period, so AI agents can transact only within clearly defined conditions, even when the consumer is not present at the moment of purchase.
  4. Verifiable proof of consent, ensuring each agent-initiated purchase is backed by user authorization that can still be produced in a dispute months later, even if the agent no longer exists.

Together, these capabilities allow payment networks and issuers to secure agentic commerce without delegating trust entirely to the agent, the merchant, or a global scheme-controlled environment.

Infrastructure Built for Networks

For IDEMIA Secure Transactions, this solution is a natural evolution of what the company has always done, drawing on decades of serving payment networks, digital wallets and issuers worldwide, a security-first heritage, and a leading role in payment tokenization. As AI agents become a new interface for commerce, payment networks will need a trusted infrastructure layer able to connect tokens, authentication, consent and transaction control. With its Agentic Commerce solution, IST extends its role from token services provider to trust infrastructure pioneer for AI-driven payments.

This approach enables alternative and domestic payment networks to preserve their role in the payment value chain as checkout becomes increasingly automated. It also supports banks and issuers by helping them make their cards available in the agent channel without heavy integration.
