Nigeria retains Safran Identity & Security to provide an upgraded automatic biometric identification system and maintenance support
Safran Identity & Security announced today the renewal of its contract with the National Identity Management Commission of Nigeria (NIMC).
The renewed service and maintenance contract includes the upgrade of the existing automatic biometric identification system (ABIS) to the new MorphoBSS (Morpho Biometric Search Services) using three types of biometrics: face, iris and fingerprints. Safran Identity & Security is also commissioned by the NIMC to maintain the solution.
This system will enable the NIMC to create a reliable identity database of citizens and residents of Nigeria and each person will be identified by a unique National Identification Number (NIN). This operation will support the overall objectives of the Commission in its harmonization drive of existing databases of all federal agencies in the country.
With a population of over 186 million, Nigeria is the most populous country in the African continent. For Nigerians citizens and residents, this new system will also be the vehicle to drive other value added services such as verification and authentication services.
We are very proud to have been selected by Nigeria to upgrade their identity management system. Our experience in large-scale projects like this one and our expertise in biometrics enable us to respond to the national authorities' requirements and provide a comprehensive and operational solution. In this way, our contribution not only helps optimize national identity management in this country but also promotes the development of new governmental services for citizens
