StarChip and Cortus announce a strategic partnership to deliver Secure Solutions for the IoT, M2M and Industry 4.0 markets

StarChip, a dynamic semiconductor company (subsidiary of Safran Identity & Security), and Cortus, a technology leader in low power, 32-bit processor IP, today announced a new strategic collaboration to deliver secure solutions for the Internet of Things, Machine to Machine and Industry 4.0 markets.

This partnership will combine StarChip‘s expertise in hardware security with Cortus’s strong competency in developing advanced low powered 32-bit processors to provide root of trust solutions for today’s interconnected world facing complex security threats.

After 6 years of fruitful collaboration with proven track records of launching successfully new products for telecom and payment applications and having shipped more than 800 million parts to the smart card market, StarChip and Cortus now have in common focus IoT, M2M and Industry 4.0 fast growing markets.

Joining their forces, StarChip and Cortus have already developed several M2M hardware devices shipped in high volumes and recently brought to the market the first product of StarChip’s new IoT Secure Controllers family. This certified EMVCo* device is compact and easy-to-integrate as a companion chip in any sensor, device, or gateway.

StarChip and Cortus will capitalize on their unique capabilities to deliver a full range of embedded security solutions for connecting objects, devices and machines. The objective of both companies is to deliver a set of root of trust solutions adapted to many use cases of the IoT applications, as but not limited to, eSIM, Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) and Know Your Customer (KYC) authentications.

We are pleased to be teaming up again with Cortus on innovative architectures embedding security features and low-power consumption for the IoT market. We have created the right hardware for the secure Internet of Things to thrive.
Hanene Maupas, Starchip VP Sales and Marketing

Cortus warmly welcomes the extension of our long-standing cooperation with StarChip to root of trust solutions in the IoT, M2M and Industry 4.0 areas. The Cortus APS architecture is minimalist, meaning that it is very efficient in silicon area, code density and power consumption as well as being an outstanding foundation for security applications. Its modularity also means that it can be fine-tuned to meet specific licensee needs. StarChip have taken advantage of this capability by working closely with us to specify the precise features needed for their secure microcontrollers.
