Tackling environmental challenges

With employees in 62 different countries, across more than 200 sites and operations across more than 140 countries, IDEMIA is tackling the environmental challenges relevant to our business, with a focus on:

  • Reducing or eliminating dangerous substances, reducing energy consumption, limiting emissions, managing waste recycling and disposal.
  • Developing eco-friendly products and solutions by introducing the evaluation of environmental impact in the product development objectives and specifications.
  • Encouraging environmental responsibility within the supply chain.
  • Maintaining a common environmental management system and ISO14001 certifications at major sites.
  • Training employees on the environmental stakes and compliance with company policy.
  • Developing and maintaining environmental awareness in R&D

Through the Environmental Policy, IDEMIA communicates common environmental objectives, outlines individual, local and global roles, and sets out guidelines to achieve compliance with environmental legislation affecting our business.

Resource consumption

IDEMIA’s environmental initiatives include improving waste management—in particular waste to landfills—reducing energy consumption, and replacing chemical products with alternative, solvent-free ones for greener processes.

IDEMIA participates in the Carbon Disclosure Project, annually sharing carbon footprint data.

Product compliance

IDEMIA is working with our clients to improve the environmental footprint and impact of our products. Taking care to ensure that our products meet the requirements of environmental legislation, IDEMIA checks elements entering into products to ensure compliance with applicable laws and IDEMIA policy prior to releasing a new product in the market. Suppliers of raw materials are expected to guarantee that they are providing goods in accordance with environmental laws. Environmental due diligence is performed, and may be triggered by changes in supplier, materials composition or release of new legislation.

Technology and design

Following a program of eco-design, IDEMIA’s R&D engineers analyze the environmental aspects of raw materials, manufacturing and assembly process, distribution, and end of life management, with attention on all phases of the product life. The IDEMIA R&D team considers environmental aspects in both the technical specifications of the product and required manufacturing equipment, as well as the set-up of new associated production processes.

Environmentally conscious products

A range of environmentally conscious options are on offer, from reduced size cards to alternative card body materials, streamlined transportation, and environmentally-friendly packaging solutions. IDEMIA can support customers in offsetting carbon emissions linked to the production and transportation of the cards.

IDEMIA’s CSR roadmap and priorities are managed through five key pillars:
