More than 250 million cars will be connected by 2020, according to a study from Gartner Research. Vehicles with telematics and infotainment services require reliable and cost-efficient global connectivity. Since soldered SIMs are typically used in this segment, and switching them to change subscriptions on the fly is not an option, remote SIM provisioning becomes a critical feature. That’s why Safran Identity & Security has developed MorphoFlex™, a solution to remotely manage credentials and connectivity on a reprogrammable embedded SIM (eSIM) without having to change the SIM itself. MorphoFlex™ enables the car manufacturer to change the network provider remotely and ensures that all connected devices can be generic throughout the supply chain, as one eSIM fits all.

There are three MorphoFlex™ enhancements that mobile network operators (MNOs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can benefit from:

  1. MorphoFlex™ is fully interoperable and compliant with the latest GSMA specs (v3.1)
  2. Safran Identity & Security’s factory in Flintbek (Germany) and its data center in Craponne (France) have received GSMA Security Accreditation Scheme (SAS) certification ensuring the highest level of security in the management of MNO credentials.
  3. The MorphoFlex™ eSIM is qualified according to the stringent quality standards defined by the automotive industry (ISO TS 16949)
